A year-by-year roadmap for high-school athletes who want to cheer in college.
College cheer recruiting rewards athletes who start early and stay organized. Use this timeline as a backbone and adjust to your target programs.
Freshman–Sophomore year
Focus on skill development and grades. Start a list of programs you admire and note what levels and skills they require. Attend a college clinic if you can.
Junior year
Build your recruiting video, research tryout dates, and reach out to coaches with a short, respectful introduction. Keep your grades and eligibility on track.
Senior year
Attend tryouts and clinics, finalize applications, and stay in contact with coaches. Have a backup plan — club and Division II programs offer great experiences too.
