The MAJORS

The MAJORS is widely described as the most selective all star cheer competition in the world. It is an invitation-only, one-night showcase reserved for elite Senior Level 6 teams, the highest level in all star cheerleading. Rather than opening registration, Varsity hand-selects the field by reviewing results from the season's major competitions, so an invitation is treated as one of the sport's highest honors.

The event is held in Indianapolis, Indiana, at the Indiana Convention Center, staged on the Friday night before JAMfest Cheer Super Nationals so that many of the same elite programs are already in the city. Roughly two dozen teams take the mat, divided into eight categories by size and gender: XSmall, Small, Medium, and Large, each offered as All Girl and Coed.

Because the field is so small and so strong, The MAJORS has the feel of an all-star game rather than a mass competition. Fans and coaches often say the cheer world stops to watch, and the night is built around spotlighting the very best routines of the Senior Level 6 season under an intense, high-energy arena atmosphere.

The MAJORS was first held in 2012 and has been staged annually since, reaching its 15th year in 2026. It has been hosted in Indianapolis for essentially its entire run, becoming a fixture of the mid-January all star weekend anchored by JAMfest Super Nationals.

The 2021 edition was held virtually rather than in person, reflecting the wider disruption to live events that season. In typical years the competition returns to the Indiana Convention Center as an in-person, single-night showcase.

Throughout its history the event has kept the same core identity: a tightly curated, invitation-only field of the nation's premier Senior Level 6 teams, selected on merit from the season's biggest competitions.

Expect a compact, prime-time event rather than an all-day competition. With only about 25 to 27 teams invited, each routine carries enormous weight, and the arena atmosphere is closer to a championship final than a typical regional. Teams compete within their size-and-gender category, and champions are crowned in each of the eight divisions.

The night showcases the most difficult skills in the sport, so spectators can expect elite tumbling, stunting, and pyramid work from programs that are household names within competitive cheer. VIP ticket packages have historically offered premier seating, a Friday-morning practice viewing, and early access to merchandise.

For families who cannot attend, the event streams exclusively on Varsity TV. Because it runs the Friday before JAMfest Super Nationals, many attendees build a full weekend around both events in Indianapolis.

The MAJORS is held at the Indiana Convention Center in downtown Indianapolis, one of the largest connected convention-and-hotel complexes in the country, with skywalk access to many downtown hotels. Indianapolis International Airport (IND) is roughly 20 minutes from downtown by car or rideshare.

Because the event shares its weekend with JAMfest Super Nationals, downtown hotels fill quickly; booking lodging and travel well in advance is advisable. Many families walk between their hotel, the convention center, and nearby dining via the enclosed downtown skywalk system, which is especially convenient in January weather.
